Later that evening, I took a moment to read the letters from Mom that fit my life so far. 

With the engagement letter was a key for a safe deposit box at the bank.  The only reference to it was there was a surprise inside. 

The wedding letter was very sweet and sentimental, and Mom offered some advice for adjusting to the first year in that style that had made me laugh so many times while she lived. 

However, it was the ‘so, you’re having a baby letter’ that made me cry.

My children wouldn’t have grandparents.  Not like the wonderful set I grew up with.  My father was the only one alive, a person I loved but only tolerated in short bursts. 

My mother would have spoiled them rotten and read all kinds of stories in all kinds of voices.  They would have played make-believe and come up with imaginary friends who went on great adventures. 

Oh, the babies would have lots of aunts and uncles by default in the form of all our friends, but it didn’t feel quite the same.

I was brought out of my musings by the feeling of my mate’s arms wrapped around me.

“Why the tears, love?”

“I was reading these,” I said, waving the letters around.  “And missing my mom. Our kids don’t have grandparents, Will.”

“Oh, sweetheart…that doesn’t mean they won’t be loved…and they’ll still have plenty of family. Sharing blood doesn’t mean you treat people the best.”

“I know. I just want them to have what I had. My mother’s parents were two of the best people you could ever meet. I was closer to my grandmother than even my mom, because she understood both of us. Sorry…reading these letters brought up all these memories, and I’m feeling sentimental. And these stupid hormones make me cry at the drop of a hat.”

“May I?” he asked, gesturing to the letters in my hand.

“Uh, sure…why?”

“I’d like to know your mum. She raised an amazing woman, and she still means a lot to you.”

“You’re wonderful, you know that?”

He looked down shyly, my feelings for him though the claim making him feel unworthy of their intensity.  I raised his chin and kissed him tenderly, completely open to him. 

Now, he was the one who felt like crying.  He’d known before I loved him, but now he knew how I saw him and it was enough to bring him to his knees to beg me to never stop.

“God…Carys! I love you so much…how you—”  His voice faltered, nothing but a whisper for the emotion clogging his throat.

“Shhh, baby…I know…you make me feel like that, too. I could never say enough to come close to describing it. Can we go to bed now? I need to feel you…”

He nodded rapidly.  “Need you, too.”

The letters were cast aside, clothes stripped away, and emotional walls dropped as we came together again.  We reveled in the new level of intimacy that came with making love since the claim.  Nothing could get in the way, and nothing else existed.

Until we slept.

Starting end of May, I've been revising and re-uploading the Children of Ossiria books to closer match my writing of today. These books were written in 2015 and 2016.

Content has not changed. It has been cleaned up and enhanced.

1. Do you have a favorite book baby?
A future Agent Seven book that hasn’t been released, yet. Writing it got me through some tough times. When nothing else was coming to me, I could work on that.

2. Which series flows so much easier that you find yourself telling the voices that they must give the other series some air time?
Well, the first drafts of several Children of Ossiria stories have been written a long time and publishing them in 2016 is my priority.

3.Do you have any writing quirks that you are willing to share? (like I have a tendency to write long hand then move to the computer, just something that frees your mind to think and connect the dots)
I need quiet to write. The quiet hum of my computer or the AC is fine, but anything else is totally distracting, which means much of my writing has happened in the middle of the night. I’ve lived more vampire hours as a writer than not!

4. Do you enjoy creating anything other than your word babies?
I recently took up drawing/sketching. I post finished projects on Facebook. I’ve tried out most any craft over the years. I can crochet and cross stitch. I don’t have a sewing machine anymore, but I used to sew. I’ve painted simple projects in the past. Just about anything you can pick up from a Michael’s store, I’ve probably tried it. I like working with my hands.

5. Where does your love of supernatural/paranormal/fantasy come from? Or is it something that has always been with you?
Always, as far back as I can remember. Sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes, all that stuff. My parents were geeks.

6. You have been drafted to compete in a triathlon, with the option to ask one of your characters to take your place. Which of them would step up, and who would run screaming? Which one would you ask first, and why?
Agent Seven, Della, would probably do it if I asked nicely. The vampires can’t because of that whole pesky sunlight issue. Carys, from PROTECTOR, would say no way. She’s not into marathon exercise.

7. What would you suggest to other writers when it comes to participating in a writing community? What are your hard and fast rules?
Communities all vary, so if you join up, observe for a while before jumping in. Helps prevent stepping on any toes. Follow the rules set by the group. Contribute help where you can.

8. Do you have any co-authors? Human or of the four legged variety?
No. And my cat isn’t allowed on my desk. Otherwise, my keyboard would’ve stopped working a long time ago!

9. How do you deal with writer’s doubt?
Talk (whine) to my closest peeps. Give myself a break. Know it’s normal and everyone has it. Distract myself with something fun. Someone with zero doubts is delusional. The best books of all time still get low reviews, so….
