Nicholae had
followed his prey from Oklahoma to California
He learned her
habits, her schedule…everything he needed to achieve an opening into her
world. The girl had the right makeup for
him to mold her, manipulate her, but it was her blood that made her so
precious.
Her immortal soul.
Of course, it
didn’t hurt that she was beautiful, too.

He would truly
enjoy corrupting Charlotte
“Ms. Taylor?”
Such a tiny woman,
like Nature used to make them. Dark
curls she couldn’t quite constrain.
Ample breasts for her frame that threatened to pop the buttons of her
professional blouse when she waved her arms to conduct her orchestra.
“Yes?” She turned toward his voice. He finally had an up-close look at her
guileless eyes the color of a glacial pond, though her pupils were dilated now
to accommodate the dim hallway.
Nicholae stepped
out of the shadows behind the stage. In
the low light of these passageways, his pale skin wouldn’t stand out. “I wanted to meet you. I became a fan today.
For someone so young, you understand Mozart very well.”
She brought her
student orchestra to a festival. They
performed Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. She
smiled at the compliment. “Thank you,
Mr.—”
“Nicholae
Dragomir. I’m an…aficionado of Old World
culture, so this is a frequent haunt of mine. I would love to discuss Mozart,
and the others, further with you…perhaps, over dinner?” Her blood rang out to him as her cheeks
warmed.
He swallowed his
hunger.
“Perhaps.” She dug around in her purse, then handed him
a business card. “My office number. You
know, I don’t often accept dinner invitations from strange men, but I’d be
willing to discuss the classics with you on an academic basis.”
He bowed his tall
frame to kiss her hand, meeting her gaze.
“I look forward to it.” He felt a
faint tremor in her fingers, read her body’s reaction to his. “Until we meet again, Ms. Taylor.” Baited
and hooked.
He nodded
courteously, then left her, disappearing into the corridors.
With a first
successful meeting, he slipped out a door on the shadowed side of the building
that would take him to the nearest manhole cover to reach the underground
access leading to the parking structure.
Traveling the city during daylight was a risk, but the plan was worth it
and he’d learned the hidden paths of Los
Angeles
Nicholae had been
trained in patience. The right alignment
of the moon, and stars, and energies of the world wouldn’t be ready for a long
time still, but he needed Miss Taylor vulnerable.
Dependent on
him.
Trusting.
Meek and mild and
completely…
Theirs.
Once he succeeded,
